The Globalization of Sport

Is it possible for the effects of globalization to impact sport, too? Apparently it is possible. Globalization has had an enormous impact on the way that telecommunications have broadcast sporting events across the globe. This had had beneficial impacts for sporting fans worldwide as they can keep up to date with their favourite sporting events.
While fans can watch any sporting event occurring in countries other than their own, globalization has also had implications in the way that sporting fans support their local teams. It seems that more and more people are beginning to support teams from other countries, and it can be a very strange thing for sports where people traditionally only backed their local team. For example, there are a number of Americans who support the United Kingdom's Manchester United soccer team, whereas some people from England were spotted supporting the United States' MLS team.
