Globalization affects economy in a great way and it seems globalization will define economy in near future. Recently the Daily News hosted a seminar on globalization and local economy, at Memphis Brooks Museum of Arts.

As Globalization has set up a global business platform, economies and markets across the world are now placed against each other and competition has grown. Globalization has also led to various technological developments.

The seminar discussed few big economic stories and, emerging markets and improving standards of living in places like China. Over the last decade the emerging markets have contributed around 70% for growth on the planet.

However the seminar explained that due to the impact globalization many international investors will take a pause due to the fear of unknown whereas investing in US will still be considered comfortable.

Globalization in its current form would be inconceivable without the American insistence on free trade. Classic free traders so far have been strongly committed to the globalization project. But more and more experts are coming up with evidence that globalization is not in the country's best interest.

Globalization and greed have gutted America's manufacturing industry and caused the loss of over 15 million high-paying manufacturing jobs to the Far East in less than two decades. U.S. multinational corporations, that employ 20% of all U.S. workers, are increasingly hiring overseas workers. Jobs at multinationals tend to pay above-average wages and have sustained the American middle class for decades.

According to an opinion poll conducted by the Wall Street Journal there has been a decisive shift in American attitudes about globalization: Only 28 percent of respondents agreed that globalization is a good thing.

Currently globalization is becoming a buzzword among business schools. Hence, several school programs are not just including a global component in the curriculum to prepare students for work overseas but also expanding offerings abroad.

Globalization of education has led Massachusetts Institute of Technology to recently team up with Sabanci School of Management in Turkey. Others like Duke University's Fuqua School of Business and the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business have opened up full-fledged campuses overseas. Some domestic programs are also offering certain consortium memberships and training agreements to foreign schools in the wake of globalization.

It is still uncertain whether these efforts on globalization of education do prepare students adequately to work overseas, but some business schools have reportedly informed the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business that teaching case studies about international companies or creating diverse classes, helps their students to gain an opportunity in the global job market.
